Before installing your new trees, it is important to consider the soil you current have.

If you are in the Perth metropolitan area, your soil will most likely be sand. If you are looking to grow long term healthy trees, sand will not give you much long term success.

Sand is composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles, and as most of us know, is great for drainage and contains nothing to feed our plant life.

At the other end of the spectrum is clay, which consists of a fine-grained, firm earthy material that is turns into an almost plastic consistency when wet – meaning it won’t let any moisture though – which is a wonderful product if you are building dams, but not very useful when you are trying to establish and grow trees successfully.
